Fabric scrap patch bag

 

When your 5yo daughter is majorly jealous of her big brother when he uses his sewing machine, you need a fabric project for her to do.

I gave her all my fabric 'trash', the small bits that would normally get thrown in the bin. I also gave her a rectangle of backing fabric (it was a piece that had been in my cupboard for 20yrs!) and I also gave her a glue stick.

She happily glued all the pieces on until they looked 'pretty' and then she sat on my lap and we used the zigzag stitch to sew the pieces on.  We sewed long straight crooked lines until the majority was stitched down. We then switched to pretty coloured threads and used lots of stitches types to jazz it up.

I then trimmed, hemmed and made a quick tote bag and sewed them on as pockets.

I think the bag looks awesome as does all the shop assistants that see it!  Even Grandma was impressed and when she first saw it, she went home and immediately tried it and made herself heaps of blocks!

Go on try it too, it's heaps of fun!

The easiest tote that I've ever made!

The title says it all, this is the easiest tote that I've ever made!
It didn't even take an hour to make, truly easy.

Fabric is from my stash. Handles are webbing strap stuff that I had in my stash that actually matched the colour in the fabric.
Pattern is this tote, go on and grab it for yourself now.

Honestly, this was so freakin' easy that I'll be making more as gifts and showing my 8yo son, Joe, how to make it too.

Have you made this pattern or do you think you will now?
Oh, a quick question ... if you were to receive this bag as a gift (either for a birthday or Christmas), would the bag in itself be enough as a gift or would I have to fill it with something like chocolate, toys or maybe even something else handmade?

Rainbow Twirl Skirt

I recently found a project in my cupboard that I'd cut out ready to sew from three years ago!   Do you know how much a kid can grow in three years... heaps!  So instead of a dress like it originally was, I turned it into a skirt.

   

  

The skirt is a hit, she loves it!

Fabric: it was originally a 'cut & sew' panel from here.
I got the gorgeously sparkly elastic from here. 

It also gave me a chance to use all the cute stitches on my sewing machine!

..and now onto the next unfinished project!

Unicorn pillow cushion

A very quick sew, a perfect stash buster and of course, the best gift ever!

I made this Unicorn Pillow/Cushion from a FREE pattern with fabric from my stash. It was so easy, that it's done in a hour or so. If you wanted to make a few at once, it'd be really easy too and I kinda cheated and cut the eyes from felt & glued them in place - so no stitching means quicker project!

I used glitter felt for the horn, turns out I had a few sheets in my stash!

Stash building

Ok, so back in January I decided that I would do my best to Use What I Have and honestly I have ..but.. it's just so hard! I want too, oh trust me, I want too but when I look at yarn that I purchased 5 years ago, today I don't know what to do with it!  So... in order to use my 'stockpiles', I have to add new stock to my stash (say that fast!) to inspire ideas & get projects started (& finished)!

Ever found a box hidden away in plain sight?

And in this box was a treasure trove?

What if there were bag handles,

buttons,

 purse clasps and

bundles of Japanese fabric squares?

You'd think it was your lucky day,

or perhaps something bad,

something worse,

something that perhaps that you feel ashamed to admit too...

I think I am a stash-a-holic.
