Teatime Unicorn Romper

Cuteness alert!
I made this romper for my daughter as she often complains that she doesn't have any trampoline clothes!  .. apparently, the majority of her clothes slip/fall down when bouncing on the trampoline and she doesn't like wearing dresses on it as she likes her knees protected.  Solution: a romper!

Pattern is this one.
Fabric is this light weight jersey.

Did I like the pattern, was it easy to make?
Yes!
I stuffed up the binding (I didn't read the instructions properly and made the binding too narrow) but I overcame that problem by using a skinnier (hat) elastic for the neckline & used a wool needle to thread it thru.
I plan on making more of these as I've got lots of great fabric to use, it's an easy pattern to sew and I'm sure it'll look super cute on!
….. I've just got to convince her to take off her swimmers so she can try it on for me!

Alley Cat

I wanted to make something fun for Joe his 8th birthday. I put my thinking cap on & revved up my internet searching and came up with this awesome pattern.
A little cat that lives in an alley in a garbage can, perfect!

I changed the pattern slightly on the garbage can but I still think it looks super cute.
Ironically, in real life, our garbage cans don't actually look like this, we have big green wheelie bins but hey, we've all seen enough episodes of Sesame Street to see Oscar the Grouch who lives in a garbage can!
There were some more different shapes cats that I could have made but I chose this one because he actually pops inside the garbage can.
I used CottonSoft yarn from Hobium Yarns.  I used the colour #23 for the cat and the colour #49 for the garbage can.

The pattern is called Alley Cats from this designer.
So, what do you think of my alley kitty?
When I gave it to Joe, he loved it!  He doesn't call it the alley cat, he calls it the Kitty in the Cookie Tin .. as our cookie tin looks a bit like this!

Planning on making..

It's the busy time a year, a time where I try to squeeze in way to much that I can possibly fit in BUT these are my makey plans.

For Joe's upcoming 8th birthday, I have a list of things to make but eep, time is ticking down!
I'm crocheting an alley cat toy, making the hedgehog from this book and hopefully will have time to make him this 'star' top but if not then hopefully I can squeeze it in for Christmas!  I bought him something different than I'd normally would have but I thought he might like it - have you ever had a Tamagotchi?

For teachers gifts, I'll be making some water bottle covers using this tutorial and will also be making some up for the kids - they'll be handy when we go on our long walks these upcoming school holidays.

Ok, down to Christmas morning.
Hubby:
I'll be making him some boxers using this pattern. If I have time, I'll try to make him a vest as he really liked the one I made Joe a few months ago.
Joe:
He's always wanted some sort of overalls, so I found these ones which will be good for summer. A pair of these trousers, these cute shorts and maybe this top.
Laney:
A cute romper, the Daniella skirt but I'll try to make it long as she really, really loves them long and maybe this willow dress.

Kids: I want to make this suitcase and fill it with doll clothes as they both love playing doll dress-ups -- this is a 'if I have the time' project so I'm not counting on it for a major pressie.
Their main present is something that they could each have but they could play together. I hope they can use the bands on the trampoline as well in the car and at home too.

And if you want to really score points with the best present ever .. then do what I did and get your guitar loving bloke a 'build your own guitar kit'!  I bought one for my hubby for his birthday, it was declared the Best.Gift.Ever. and has been 'playing' with it every night for months!  Grab a kit from here ...you can thank me later!!

Dr Who Scarf

Ok, I got just a little bit excited to see that the 'new' Dr Who has a scarf!  I'm a big fan of the original Dr Who Scarf but this new one is just as pretty...and much more me!
So I've done up a rough colour chart of yarns (see above) so I can try to make myself one and if you want to make one too then please feel free to use my draft!
Colours are from here & the colourways are as follows:
  2 - #390
  3 - #115
  4 - #192
  5 - #128
  6 - #398
  7 - #114
  8 - #516
  9 - #386
10 - #208
11 - #245
12 - #212
13 - #241
14 - #253
15 - #401
16 - #509
17 - #527 (used twice)
18 - #124
19 - #413
http://shrsl.com/1b8on
So I'm thinking it would look best as a crochet scarf, made lengthways and probs best in single crochet and you can create the fringe/tassles as you go.
Whatchya think?
Are you a Dr Who fan?
Did I come close with the colours?
Are you going to make one?

Unicorn bag

This bag is was a spur of the moment decision to make as I just couldn't resist turning a bag into a unicorn!

Isn't it the cutest!
My seven year old son keeps asking me if it's for him but nope, it's for me!

Pattern is this one. Go on, make it!

Yarn is YarnArt Cotton Soft.

Whilst this bag is totally gorgeous, the pattern needs an errata .. so here's my take on the corrections needed & ideas on how you can make it work for you:

Rnd 29 .. work 3 slip stitches back down to the middle of last 5ch, chain 5 THEN single crochet into the first chain 5 of the previous row (effectively 'closing the wings') and then you continue working down the side in the pattern as stated.

Flower Drawstring Tie
..it states ::  (see Fig.3)  -- but there is NO Figure 3!

The very first line of instruction states make a chain then start 2nd chain from the hook BUT then it states in Row 1 to start in a magic ring!   Come on, make up your mind what you want us to do!
So I just ignored the first line of instruction and started at Row 1.

In row 1, it would be helpful to tell us what an actual petal was made from, rather then just stating at the end [5petals + 59ch] -  that was confusing, so if you're working that row then just ignore that bit in the brackets.

Ears.
Wow, this also states (see Fig.4)  -- but there is NO Figure 4!
It would also be super helpful to state that you need to make 2 ears!

Row 4. Ok, this needs some work - so after the first 2hdc in next 2 st, chain 1 (then ignore the next chain from the previous row) then work the 2hdc in the dc (of the previous row).

Horn.

Ok, yet another (see Fig.5)  -- but there is NO Figure 5!

Don't get me started on this horn, it just didn't work and I tried 3 times, in the end I just folded over what I had made and sewed it into a horn type shape. Just go with your guts and use a darning needle to finish it off!

The pretty little ornament.

This is a super quick project, it took me less than a day to make, well to be truthful, it only took me an hour or so to hook up! It's perfect for an upcoming Christmas Decoration Kris Kringle.
The yarn is the YarnArt Cotton Soft from Hobium Yarns. It's lovely & smooth and the colours are just gorgeous.  Yep, it's a "new to me yarn" and I love it!
Good news for you.... I've got a discount code just for you. Get 20% off using code: CraftyRie20   but hurry, it's valid for one week only, so click on over to Hobium Yarns now and check out their gorgeous range.

The pattern is a free one from Ravelry, it's actually supposed to be a hexagon motif but I skipped the last few rows to turn it into an ornament.

Do you like handmade Christmas decorations?  I love them, I think 90% of my decorations are hand made!  Do you have a favourite Christmas pattern that you use/love - please share, I'd love to see it!

The Very Easy Cami Top

Ok, this is a story about a very easy cami top.

It was easy to print, easy to cut out.
It was easy to pin together and easy to sew.
It was easy to put on and very easy to wear.
...and considering how I had just been thinking about buying a stack of new ones, I'll now continue to sew them myself!
Grab the pattern here and trust me, it's easy to make!
